About Tooled Out: Who Writes It and How We Test

Tooled Out is a tech blog about fixing phones, using AI tools, and picking gear that earns its spot in your bag or on your desk. I’m John Corcione, and I write it.

Who’s behind it

I’ve carried Samsung Galaxy phones for a long time: the Note series first, then the S21 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, and S25 Ultra. My daily driver now is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and I’m still building muscle memory for a foldable. That’s why so much of the site is Samsung and Android troubleshooting.

My day job background is enterprise IT and telecom, 15+ years of it. I’ve worked at Ericsson, Sprint, Sprint Nextel, Sprint T-Mobile, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Fiserv, and Snowflake. The roles were Release Manager, Network Engineer, and IT Technical Program Manager, and I’m a Certified ScrumMaster. The work covered telecom infrastructure, wireless migrations, cloud and fintech systems, and enterprise release management. Long story short, I’ve spent a lot of time watching things break and then working out why.

I’m also CTO of DelCor Media LLC, a family-owned media business I run with my daughter Delina. We’re based in Clearwater and Brooksville, Florida (DelCorMedia.com). On the side I build local AI pipelines with Docker containers like n8n, ComfyUI, Kokoro TTS, Ollama, and Firecrawl, plus agentic tools like Antigravity, Claude Code, and Codex. That’s the stuff I write about in the AI posts.

Full disclosure: I’ve had my Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra for only two weeks, so I’m still learning it. When a post is based on documentation or user reports instead of my own testing, I say so.

What you’ll find here

How we test and write

Troubleshooting posts here are written from documented sources: manufacturer documentation, release notes, and other credible references. Each post says which parts I tested myself and which are reported from those sources. If I haven’t tested something, the post says so.

When a menu moves or an update changes a fix, I update the post. Android and One UI change often, so a fix that worked last spring may not work now.

Some links on this site may earn a commission if you buy through them. That commission never decides a verdict. If a product isn’t worth buying, the post says that.

I use AI tools for research and drafting. Everything gets reviewed and edited before it goes up.
